Privacy policy
What this site collects, and what happens to it.
This policy covers bpdata.io and every page on it, including /plumbers, /check and the other landing pages. BP Data is run by Brandon Phillips in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. Questions or requests: brandon@bpdata.io.
The short version
- I collect what you type into a form, and use it to reply to you.
- I don't sell it, rent it, or put you on a mailing list.
- The site uses Google Analytics and the Meta (Facebook) pixel, through Google Tag Manager, to count visits and measure ads. They set cookies. They record that a form was sent, never what you typed in it.
- Email me and I'll delete what you sent.
Contact, booking and quote forms
These are the forms on the homepage, the /plumbers pages (including "Book a free call"), the other landing pages and /platform. Depending on the form, they ask for:
- your name and business name
- an email address, a phone number, or both
- what you type or pick in the form, such as your website address, the best time to call, your biggest problem, or a note
The form also sends the page you were on and, if you arrived from an ad link, the campaign tags in that link (the utm_ parts of the address).
Where it goes: the site doesn't keep form submissions in a database. It forwards each one as a message to a private Discord channel that only I read, so I can reply quickly. Discord, a US company, stores those messages on its servers. I use your details only to reply to you about what you asked for, by email, phone call or text.
Booking a call on the calendar (/book)
The booking calendar on /book (and the older /plumbers/book page) is provided by Cal.com. When you book a time there, what you enter (your name, email, phone number, business name, website and biggest problem, plus any notes) goes to Cal.com, which handles the booking under its own privacy policy. Cal.com then adds the booking to BP Data's Google Calendar, so Google stores it too. I use it only to make the call. The site's analytics record that a call was booked, never your details.
The free Google check (/check)
The check asks for your business name, city, trade and email.
- When the instant check is switched on, your business name and city are sent to DataForSEO, a data provider, to look up public Google Maps listings and rankings. The results are public business information: names, addresses, categories, ratings and review counts.
- Your details and a summary of the result are sent to my private Discord channel, the same way as a form, so I can email you the result and what I'd fix first.
- The server keeps a check in memory for a short time so the page can show your result: pending lookups for up to 15 minutes, finished results for up to 24 hours. Nothing is written to a database.
- If the instant check isn't available, your details go to me and I run the check by hand.
Server logs and spam limits
- To stop spam, the server counts how many forms and check requests (5 per 10 minutes) and full map checks (3 per day) come from each IP address. Those counters are kept in memory and cleared within a day, or when the server restarts.
- The server writes a short line to its log when a form is sent, which can include the email address you entered. The servers that host the site may also keep standard technical logs, such as IP address, time, page requested and browser type. These logs are used to keep the site running and secure, not for marketing.
Analytics, ads and cookies
The site loads Google Tag Manager, a Google tool that in turn loads two measurement tools: Google Analytics 4 and the Meta (Facebook) pixel. I use them to see how many people visit, which pages they look at, and whether my ads lead to enquiries.
- What they record: the pages you visit and when, where you came from (for example an ad or a search), basic device and browser details, and, when you send a form or start a free check, the fact that it was sent and which form it was. They do not get the form's contents: no name, email, phone number, business name or message.
- Cookies and identifiers: Google and Meta set cookies or similar identifiers in your browser so they can tell repeat visits apart and connect a visit to an ad you clicked. Google and Meta receive your IP address and these identifiers, and may link them to other information they hold, under their own policies.
- Their policies apply: Google Privacy Policy (and how Google uses data from sites that use its services), and the Meta Privacy Policy.
- How to opt out: block or delete cookies in your browser settings; use an ad or tracker blocker (the site and its forms still work); install Google's Google Analytics opt-out add-on; and set your Meta ad preferences.
- Light or dark look. The site may remember whether you picked the light or dark look, in your browser's own storage. That never leaves your device.
- Fonts from Google. Pages load their fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google's servers, which see your IP address. Google's own privacy policy covers that.
- If you came from an ad, the ad platform (for example Google or Meta) knows you clicked it. Its own privacy policy covers what it records.
- Before I add any other analytics or advertising tags, I'll update this page first, and say what they collect.
Who else sees it
Only the services needed to run the site: Discord (form and check notifications), Cal.com and Google Calendar (calls booked on the calendar), DataForSEO (the business lookup in the free check), the servers that host the site, and Google and Meta for the visit and ad measurement described above (which never includes what you type into a form). I don't sell what you type into a form, or share it with anyone else unless the law requires it.
If you become a client, your agreement with BP Data covers the data handled for your business.
How long it's kept, and your choices
- Form and check messages stay in my Discord channel and my email until I delete them. Calendar bookings stay in Cal.com and my Google Calendar until I delete them.
- Email brandon@bpdata.io to see what I have about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted. I'll do it and confirm by email.
- You can always skip the forms and email me directly instead.
Children
This site is for business owners. It isn't meant for children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If what the site collects changes, this page changes first, with a new date at the top.
